Meet our Chief Deputy

Chief Deputy Kris Weaver is a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. Weaver attended and graduated from Gateway Christian Academy in Blacksburg. He started with the Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher in December 1994. In March 1996, Weaver moved into the corrections division as a jailer and graduated from Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy in June 1996. After working a couple of years at the jail, Weaver was transferred to the patrol division and completed New River Criminal Justice Training Academy in June 1998. While in the patrol division, Weaver served in various capacities and was promoted through the ranks of Corporal (2004), Sergeant (2011), Lieutenant (2013), and finally to Captain in May 2017. Weaver also served on the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team for several years and is a DCJS Certified General Instructor and Driving Instructor. Throughout his career, he has attended a wide variety of specialized training courses, including the FBI First Line Supervisors School and the Supervisory Development Series through New River Community College in 2016. On December 6, 2021, Weaver was promoted to Chief Deputy.

Weaver is married and has two adult children, along with numerous other family members who still call Montgomery County home.
