ReNew the New, our annual river clean up event, is scheduled for Saturday, August 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Whitethorne Boat Ramp. This is the perfect opportunity to get out in nature and help keep the New River clean for future generations. We provide a BBQ lunch with all the fixings for volunteers. Bring your own water craft or borrow one of our kayaks. Register here.

Summer 2022 Activities
Laurel Bed Lake Kayak Trip - $30
Sa, Aug. 6, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Clinch Mountain Wildlife Management Area
We provide full instruction on how to navigate your own sit-on-top kayak in a safe environment on the calm, clear water of Laurel Bed Lake. Lunch is provided lakeside. The deadline to register is July 30.
We will depart from the Montgomery County Government Center at 8 a.m. and return at 5:00 p.m.
Great Road Encampment - Free
Sa - Su, Aug. 6-7, Eastern Montgomery Park
The Great Road was the main thoroughfare going west to the Frontier. It was traveled by the likes of George Washington, Daniel Boone, Andrew Lewis, William Preston, Adam Harman, and the Ingles and Draper Families. This event honors all who passed through the Valleys of Southwest Virginia in the quest for a better life.
Demonstrations include 18th Century Reenactors, The West Virginia Company of Roger's Rangers, a detached military hospital and medicine of the time, flintlock muskets, camp cooking, knife and tomahawk throwing, leather work, blacksmithing, and 18th Century clothing, spinning, and weaving.

Cruising on the Pontoon - $53
Su, Sept. 11, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., Claytor Lake
Travel in style on an 18-foot party pontoon with reclining chairs, a diving board, and a water slide. We’ll provide hotdogs on the grill and drinks. Participants are requested to bring a side to share. The deadline to register is September 2.
We will depart from the Montgomery County Government Center at 8:30 a.m. and return around 6:30 p.m.
Drift and Dine on the New - $25
F, Sept. 16, 1 p.m. - 10 p.m., New River
Enjoy a relaxing raft float with class I and II rapids. Afterwards we will dine at The Palisades, a local hotspot for evening entertainment and contemporary cuisine in a countryside setting. Participants are responsible for their meal cost. All equipment is included. The deadline to register is September 9.
