Volunteer Opportunities

RSVP Annual Bake Sale

The Bake Sale will be held on Tuesday, October 1 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Montgomery County Government Center, and your delicious baked items are needed to support the RSVP Scholarship Program.  We need your donations of homemade goodies (bread, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, party mix, brownies, pies, snacks, desserts, etc.  If possible, please individually wrap everything in clear or colored cellophane. Tie them off with ribbons or twist ties.  The prettier the presentation, the better they will sell!  You may drop your donation off at the RSVP office on Monday, September 30, by noon.  As always, monetary donations are welcome.  Volunteers are also needed the day of the sale.  Call the office for more details.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley is asking for volunteers to help out in the ReStore. The ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, appliances, home goods, building materials, and many other items that help fund Habitat for Humanity’s building projects throughout the NRV. Volunteers are needed to help run the cash register, assist customers in finding what they need, stock store shelves, organize the ReStore, and move lightweight furniture.

Additionally, Habitat for Humanity of the NRV recently broke ground on their largest construction project to date. It will include seven townhouses in downtown Blacksburg and volunteers will be needed as soon as late October/early November.

If you’re interested in either volunteer opportunity, then please contact Trevor, the Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@habitatnrv.org. You can also call the ReStore at (540) 381-1155.

Habitat is also looking for help dressing their new mascot, “Hugh Manatee.” You can see a picture of Hugh in the RSVP Newsletter. The staff at Habitat feel Hugh is somewhat boring looking. He is about 18 inches long and quite furry. The staff of Habitat for Humanity is looking for skilled seamstresses/dressmakers/knitters, etc. that may help them dress him up to be a proper mascot.  If you are interested, please contact the RSVP office.
