Public Notification: Montgomery County Board of Supervisors To Meet Virtually on April 13, 2020
Meeting agenda includes: adopt FY2021 Tax Rates; approve advertising an ordinance to change penalty and interest for the 2020 A Real Estate Taxes due June 5; and provide funds to cover costs associated with the COVID19 pandemic.

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will meet virtually on Monday, April 13, 2020, at 4 p.m.

Declarations of Emergency have been made at all levels of government including Montgomery County. A disaster exists which requires the County to assure continuity of government for a period not to exceed six (6) months. During a declared disaster, the Code of Virginia requires and allows governing bodies to conduct their meetings in manners which are consistent with providing continuity of government and in a safe and healthy manner, and for the public safety, health and welfare of the governing body and all attendees/interested parties consistent with open government.

The COVID-19 virus makes it impractical and unsafe for the Board of Supervisors to physically assemble in one location. The virus also makes it impractical and unsafe, as well as potentially life threatening, for the public, and the County staff, to gather in the same location to participate in the scheduled meeting for three items of business:

  1. To adopt the FY2021 Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Rates (which are not proposed to change);
  2. To adopt a resolution advertising an ordinance to waive penalties and setting the interest at zero for 90 days for the 2020 Real Estate A taxes due on June 5, 2020, to assist citizens with potential financial hardships due to the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic; and
  3. To appropriate $200,000 toward the costs of establishing testing sites, test kits, masks, and supplies to support testing for COVID 19; to support volunteers at the testing sites; and for the purchase of equipment, software, supplies and other costs necessary for remote operations due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
In an effort to meet the guidelines that have been outlined by both our federal and state government public health and elected officials, the virtual meeting can be viewed online at: https://www.youtube.com/montgomeryva
