5/24/2018 - Animal Care and Adoption Center Hosts One-Year Anniversary Celebration and Open House

To celebrate the success over the past year and to thank the community who has been supportive, the Animal Care and Adoption Center is hosting a one-year anniversary celebration and open house beginning at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 26.

Many fun and interactive activities for all ages are planned to include agility demonstrations; stuffed animal surgical repair clinic (while supplies last); conservation dog demonstrations; rock painting; face painting; and much more!

Refreshments will be provided to include Homestead Creamery ice cream, goodies from Hethwood Market, and fresh popped popcorn (all while supplies last). Attendees can also enter to win door prizes. This event is free to the public. Parking for the event will be available at the gravel parking lot neighboring the center on Cinnabar Road.

In the past 12 months, 1,607 animals have entered the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center and 1,505 animals left through adoptions, reclaims, and transfers to rescues.

While the national live release rate for animal shelters is 83 percent and the average rate for government-run facilities is 78 percent, the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center has a 96 percent live release rate.

In addition, approximately 15,700 visitors have entered the doors of the new facility, with an average of 1,310 visitors each month. Beyond the daily visitors, 1,600 people have signed up to volunteer at the center.

The one-year anniversary celebration and open house is an opportunity to thank the community for embracing and supporting the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center. For more information about the center, visit www.montgomerycountyva.gov/acac.
