2/16/2018 - Record low numbers at the Animal Care and Adoption Center

Following the free pet adoption weekend on February 10 and 11, the Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center experienced record low numbers of adoptable animals, with only 10 cats and three dogs still waiting for homes as of Monday.

This event was in partnership with Motor Mile Subaru and sponsored by a grant through Subaru Loves Pets and the ASPCA. Of the 26 animals that found homes during the event, there were 13 cats, 12 dogs, and one pig.

"Many of the animals still at the shelter after the free pet adoption weekend have specific behavioral needs," stated Montgomery County Animal Care and Adoption Center Executive Director, Eileen Mahan. "We believe there are perfect homes out there for these cats and dogs though!"

Prior to February 12, 2018, the fewest adoptable animals available was recorded in April 2017, when the Animal Care and Adoption Center first began accepting cats. At that point, there were 23 dogs and one cat available for adoption.

"We would love it if we didn't have any animals here at the shelter," said Mahan. "Until that day comes, we will be here to help the community and to help every homeless pet find a home."
