Criminal Investigations Division
Lieutenant Norman Croy is in charge of the Criminal Investigations Division.
The Sheriff's Office has six full-time investigators responsible for carrying
out investigations of crimes that are committed in Montgomery County. They investigate known
or suspected criminals and facts of these cases. They interview complainants, witnesses,
victims of crime, officers and deputies who were at the scene, and suspects to obtain information,
clues, and gather evidence. They arrest and assist in the arrests of suspects. Much time is spent
preparing cases for court. They testify before the various courts and grand juries to help
convict suspected criminals.
Evidence Technician
Evidence Technicians are responsible for
responding to crime scenes as needed for the purpose of discovering evidence at
the scene of a crime. They perform crime scene photography, development of latent
fingerprints, sketches, cast techniques, and carry out many other types of evidence
collection. They also provide expert testimony in court cases. Our Evidence Technicians
are responsible for the storage of the evidence and the records associated with the
evidence. They transport all appropriate evidence to the State Forensic Laboratory
in Roanoke, Virginia, to maintain the chain of evidence. They are also liaisons
between the State Forensic Laboratory and the Sheriff's Office.
