Citizen's Police Academy
In 1995 we realized that many citizens in Montgomery County had misconceptions of
what deputies are faced with each day. There was an obvious need to better educate
our citizens on what our roles truly are. The concept of the Citizens Academy
started in England in 1977, the first such course in the United States was at
the Orlando, Florida Police Department in 1985.

The graduates of the program will not be considered trained in any of the operations
of the office, but through education, can formulate responsible conclusions concerning
police activity. The deputies who perform the duties on a daily basis act as the
instructors for the course.
The course for the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office meets one evening per week
and is thirteen weeks long. The participant will receive information on the following
operation of the office:
- Goals and Objectives of the office and the connection between Law Enforcement
and the Community
