Geographic Information System (GIS) and Aerial Photographs

VIRGINIA BASE MAPPING PROGRAM (VBMP)

PLANNING DEPARTMENT
- Coordinate aerial mapping of County under VBMP.
- Establish Global Positioning System (GPS) procedure to map location
of all new construction.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT
- Continue to assign E911 addresses for new construction in the County.
- Continue development of a geographic information system (GIS) for
the county using ArcCAD and ArcVIEW software.
- Continue support of public accessible tax parcel information on the
internet.
- Work to insure that the countys GIS can be used by other departments
and agencies such as Real Estate, Sheriff, Public Service Authority,
Economic Development, etc.

GIS Manager began needs assessment with "Kick Off" meeting on June
5th, followed by individual meetings with department heads and constitutional
officers. Written input from departments/constitutional officers due back in
mid-July. Within Planning and Inspections Department, GIS Manager is working
with planners and building inspectors to evaluate potential use of land development
software integrated with GIS. |

Researching and preparing supporting information for needs assessment study
to be conducted with county departments. "Kick Off" meeting for assessment

(Aerial Photography)-Decided to continue with Virginia Base Mapping Program.
Will receive half of county mapped at 1 foot resolution, target map scale 1"=200'
and half at 2 foot resolution , target map scale 1"=400'. GIS--Top applicant
for GIS manager position visited January 11th. Job offer was made by County
Administrator and applicant accepted. |

(GIS) Interviewed two applicants for position of GIS Manager. Scheduled visit
from top applicant for January 11th.

with respect to planned regional contract for aerial photography to be flown
in the Spring of 2002. (GIS) Reviewing applicants for position of GIS Manager;

Mapping Association. |

and other jurisdictions on aerial phototgraphy of the county (orthophotos) in
