AT A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION
HELD ON OCTOBER 28, 1998 IN THE BOARD ROOM (#327) THIRD FLOOR, COUNTY COURTHOUSE,
CHRISTIANSBURG, VIRGINIA:

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Wells, Chair, called the meeting to order and Mr. Ewing established the presence of a quorum.
PUBLIC ADDRESS
Margaret Smith addressed the Commission. She discussed the new zoning ordinance and distributed a letter of comments dated October 27, 1998.
There being no further comments, the Public Address was closed.
WORK SESSION
The Commission entered into Work Session
Zoning Ordinance Revision -The members reviewed and discussed all comments received on the proposed Revised Zoning Ordinance. These included resolutions from the Board of Supervisors, verbal comments made at the Public Hearing on September 30th, and written comments received through October 15th. Based on this discussion the following changes are to made:
A-1 Agricultural District
Eliminate all limitations on water and sewer service
Reduce minimum lot size from 2 1/2 acres to 1 1/2 acre
Allow contractorÕs storage yards with a Special Use Permit
Specify a 40Õ minimum width for private access easements
R-R Rural Residential District
Eliminate all limitations on water and sewer service
Reduce minimum lot size from 2 acres to 1 1/2 acre
Permit in Rural Expansion areas
C-1 Conservation District
Eliminate all limitations on water and sewer service
C B Community Business
Allow mini-warehouses with a Special Use Permit
Staff was directed to make these changes; correct typos, internal inconsistencies, etc. and bring a new draft to the Planning Commission regular meeting on November 18th. At that meeting it is anticipated that the Commission will send the Revised Zoning Ordinance along with a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
