1990 Bikeway/Walkway Plan
The TransAmerican Bike Trail
The TransAmerican Bike Trail, mapped by the Adventure
Cycling Association, was established in 1976 during the American Bicentennial.
The Trail threads its way through Montgomery County and across 10 states on
its way from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific Coast. Parts of the trail offer
challenges greater than the average bicyclist may well want to face, including
the steep, albeit short, section that climbs East Main in Christiansburg. No
one site exists for the TransAmerican Bike Trail; however, the following sites
to provide additional information on the establishment and current route of
the Trail.
Adventure
Cycling Association: The folks who originally brought you the TransAmerican
Bike Trail. The site includes descriptions of newer trails as well as a history
of the TransAmerican Trail.
Adventure

Bicycle Trail Network materials.
National
Millennium Trails: The year 2000 celebration of Trails in the United States.

the New River Trail in southwestern Virginia and the W & OD Trail in northern
Virginia.
