Waste Management - Frequently Asked Questions
- I am a County resident and need to know how to get my trash picked up.
- Montgomery County does not provide curbside trash pickup services as the Towns of Blacksburg
and Christiansburg do. We provide our Consolidated Sites. There are private companies that
provide this service and can be found listed under "rubbish & garbage removal"
in the Yellow Pages.
- What are the landfill hours?
- Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority (MRSWA), formerly the landfill, is now a transfer
station. MRSWA has an automated menu driven telephone system which gives prerecorded information
including their hours of operation. The telephone number is 381-2820.
- Where is a greenbox closest to where I live?
- Call 382-5793 for assistance.
- Where can I take brush?
- Yard waste and brush should be taken directly to Montgomery Regional Solid
Waste Authority (MRSWA). There is a reduced tipping fee for brush which is
recycled into mulch.
- Where can I take my Christmas tree?
- A place will be designated at our Consolidated Collection sites for Christmas
trees. Trees are taken in separately to obtain a reduced tipping fee.
- What do I do with car batteries?
- Car batteries are accepted at Advance Auto Stores.
- How do I report roadside trash?
- If the area in question is within one of the town limits, please call
Christiansburg at 382-6128 or Blacksburg at 961-1130. If it is in
Montgomery County, please call VDOT at 381-7200.
- How do I report an illegal dump?
- Please call 382-5793 and relate all known information about the dump site.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department has an
ordinance officer who will investigate the site and issue any summons if possible
from evidence or witness accounts. If a person is proven guilty of illegally dumping,
he/she will be responsible for the clean up costs or for the cleanup of the site.
