The General Services Division includes the County Engineer, Building Inspections, Buildings and Grounds, the Garage and motor pool operations, Recycling, Litter Control, and Solid Waste Collections, and Animal Control.

The County operates 10 staffed recycling and collection sites, at which all County citizens (including residents of Blacksburg and Christiansburg) may deposit household waste and recyclables, appliances, mattresses, furniture, etc. See the Waste Management page for details.

General Services consists of the following departments:

• Animal Control
• Building Inspections
• Public Facilities which includes the departments of Buildings & Grounds, Housekeeping, Motor Pool, and the County Garage
• Solid Waste/Environmental Protection (and the department Litter Control)
• Environmental Engineering Services

General Services supports County citizens by providing the means to dispose of household waste, addressing litter and illegal dumping concerns, ordering street signs that have been damaged or stolen, administering soil and erosion permits and compliance follow-up, maintaining and design of County buildings and facilities, among many other responsibilities. Our Garage maintains many of the County’s vehicles including the Sheriff’s Department vehicles.
