Services Available From Your Extension Office

Soil Testing

Farmers, gardeners and others may submit samples of soil from production areas, gardens or lawns for analysis at Virginia Tech's Soils Laboratory. Results of the analysis and recommendations for fertilizer and lime amendments will be mailed to the person submitting the sample. Kits with complete directions may be picked up at the Extension Office, or can be mailed upon request. Fees may apply.

 

Disease, Insect and Weed Identification

Farmers, gardeners and others may submit samples of diseased plants, insects, or weeds for identification and recommendations for control. There is no fee for this service.

 

Forage Testing

Farmers may submit samples of either standing or harvested forages for anaylsis to determine feed value for livestock. There is a fee for this service.

 

Pressure Canner Testing

Persons with pressure canners may have their canner gauges tested for accuracy by bringing them to the Extension Office. There is no fee for this service, but an appointment is required.

 

Individual Assistance

Extension Agents are available to consult with citizens on a wide variety of matters related to agriculture & natural resources, family & consumer science, or youth development opportunities. Call, email or visit the Extension office to obtain this assistance. There is no fee for this service.
