What Is The Victim-Witness Assistance Program?
The Victim-Witness Assistance Program helps victims and witnesses of crimes
by providing information and support throughout the court process. Victims and
witnesses play an important role in the prosecuting of cases which may be
frightening and frustrating. The Victim-Witness Assistance Program is here
to make the experience easier for you. The services of the Victim-Witness
Assistance Program are free.
Why Would I Contact The Victim-Witness Assistance Program?
Contact the Victim-Witness Assistance Program if…..
- You have questions about your role as a witness in a case;
- You would like an explanation of court procedures or a tour of the
court room prior to testifying;
- You need someone to speak with your employer about your appearing as
a witness without the loss of wages;
- Your personal property is being held as evidence in a case;
- You want assistance in filing for compensation under the Crime
Victim's Compensation Act;
- You need a referral to social service agencies that provide restitution, emergency
financial, medical or psychological assistance to crime victims;
- You would like someone to escort you to court or you have a transportation problem;
- You are not receiving restitution payments that were ordered by the Court;
- You have received crime related threats or harassment; and
- You need information regarding the status of your case.
