Commissioner of the Revenue
 
Sharon E. Gilbert The Commissioner of the Revenue is a constitutional officer of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Montgomery County. The Commissioner is locally elected every four years and is the chief assessing office of the County. The Commissioner and staff are responsible for accurately assessing all tangible personal property (personal and business) and maintaining real estate ownership records. The Commissioner oversees tax relief programs for senior citizens, permanently disabled citizens, land use, and the car tax rebate. In addition, the Commissioner oversees the filing of Virginia State income tax returns for the County.

Mission

The mission of the office of the Commissioner of the Revenue is to:
  • serve the citizens of Montgomery County in an efficient, effective and courteous manner
  • provide the citizens with accurate and useful information concerning assessments
  • identify and assess all property in Montgomery County in a fair and equitable manner according to the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the County of Montgomery.
