Montgomery County launches prescription discount card
Montgomery County launched a discount card program to help  consumers cope with the high price of prescriptions. The County is making free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 22 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.
The cards may be used by all County residents, regardless of age, income or existing health coverage.
"Montgomery County is proud to be one of the counties nationwide participating with NACo," said Board Chair Annette Perkins. "The NACo prescription discount card offers significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured residents of our County, and even those fortunate to have prescription coverage can use the card to save money on medications that are not covered by their health plan. Best of all, there is no cost to County taxpayers for NACo and Montgomery County to make these money saving cards available to our residents."
Residents can visit Caremark to print an ID card and use it immediately at any participating pharmacy. County residents can call toll-free 1-877-321-2652 or visit Caremark for assistance with the program.
"Using the NACo prescription discount card is easy," Perkins said. "Simply present it at a participating pharmacy. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use."
The program is administered by CVS Caremark.
Web-based real estate information feature now available
Montgomery County recently launched a web-based real estate information feature on MontgomeryCountyVA.gov.
The real estate information search tool is found by clicking here, under the “services” section of the home page or linked from the Commissioner of Revenue’s home page.
The feature provides an easy-to-use interface to search for property information by owner name, property address or parcel ID. Advanced and map search methods are also available.
Each parcel contains a profile listing the owner, parcel and legal descriptions, assessed value, detailed dwelling descriptions of residential property, commercial building descriptions and information about outbuildings or additions to the primary building. There are also maps showing the selected parcel and surrounding parcels and roads and a sketch of the primary property.
The Commissioner of Revenue’s Office, Information Technology and other staff worked on the project to improve the accessibility of information currently available on traditional parcel card reports. The real estate information search will also be a useful tool for property owners to view reassessment information when notices of reassessed values are mailed in the fall.

Reassessment video online and TV

Montgomery County now has a reassessment video available online and on Channel 190 available to Comcast cable subscribers in the county. The video airs every day at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Claiming the championship
 The 2010 Dixie Ponytails (11-12) All-Star District Tournament was held recently at Motor Mile Park. Four all-star teams from Radford, Montgomery County, Eastern Montgomery County and Botetourt County laid it all on the line for a trip to the state tournament. Eastern Montgomery were the runners up and Montgomery County claimed the ponytail championship (see picture left)! They will be facing Grayson County on Friday, July 16, at 4 p.m. in Farmville.
The 2010 Dixie Ozone (11-12) Baseball District 3 Tournament took place July 2 - 8. After  11 grueling games, Blacksburg claimed the Ozone championship (see picture right) and Montgomery County came in second place!
