The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Report to the County of Montgomery for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2007. This was the twenty-first consecutive year that the government has received this prestigious award. The Certificate of Achievement is a national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports. In order to receive the award, the County had to publish an easily readable and efficiently organized CAFR, whose contents conformed to program standards and satisfied both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements.

The OA4 recognizes agencies that lead the public procurement profession through the implementation of best practices. The accreditation demonstrates excellence in procurement through the accomplishment of rigorous standards and best practices. The program is founded on a self-evaluation process using the NIGP Agency Accreditation Criteria Form, which requires substantial documentation to demonstrate best practices used by the entity. Agencies meeting the minimum requirements are OA4-accredited for three years. Montgomery County became the 79th entity in the nation to receive the accreditation on Oct. 27 2004 and has been reaccredited through 2010.
